Taylor's parents, Chris and Larissa Brewton, and her grandmother, Joan Burns kept in touch with all of those who cared about Taylor through e-mail updates. Following are the letters that were sent throughout Taylor's illness.

The journal started with the following letter from Taylor's "Mimi" Joan Burns:

Sunday, January 14, 2001

My 3-year-old granddaughter was diagnosed with AML on December 13, 2000. She had been sick with an upper respiratory infection and ear infection. We live in Tyler,Texas and she lives with her parents in Frisco, Texas. Her name is Taylor Anne Brewton. She also has a one year old sister, Tristyn Grace, and her mom just delivered us a new baby sister, Tessa Christian, on Saturday, December 30. Needless to say, we have had a rough 4 weeks since Taylor's diagnosis. She is in the hospital in Dallas, Texas: Medical City Hospital. She had her first round of chemotherapy on December 13 - 17. She started her second round five days ago. We do not know what is ahead. She will possibly have one more round of chemo, possible radiation and then a bone marrow transplant. We have tested both of her sisters, but they are not a match. The second round of chemo had to be delayed because she has had a tube down her throat to help her breathe. The tube was put in because her throat was closing up on December 12th. We finally got the tube out five days ago, but she is not able to respond to us at all because of the drug withdrawal tremors that she is having.

They have put her on methadone to help the shakes, but she is stoic and non-responsive to us now. She was finally moved from ICU yesterday after 3 1/2 weeks in ICU. We are clinging to our faith and the belief that God will help her and us get through her illness. Please e-mail me if you have any ideas or suggestions that might help Taylor Anne. There are so many questions that we do not have the answers to right now. We thought when the tube came out, she would come back to us and be able to talk but this had not happened. Sometimes, we do not know what questions to even ask of her oncologists. Please help.

Thanking you for your time,
Joan Burns
